Meet our Wedding Planner – Katie

5th April 2016

Tell us a bit about yourself...

I come from a background of hotels and restaurants dealing with all aspects of the business. When working as part of The Special Events Team whilst at the famous Cliveden House which specialises in events for the rich and famous, I hosted many weddings and civil ceremonies that varied from small and intimate receptions to lavish wedding breakfasts. I re-located from Buckinghamshire to The Lake District a few years ago, got married and began working at the beautiful Daffodil Hotel which I absolutely love and am really proud to be a part of.

I have a great eye for detail, a wealth of experience and will always go the extra mile to ensure perfection for a fairy-tale ending.

What is the first piece of advice you give to brides planning their own wedding?

If they have me as their Wedding Planner they would never be on their own. From the day I meet a couple at the initial show round I always make sure they know they can ask me anything however trivial they feel it may be, I've been asked every question under the sun and am happy to help with whatever I can. The first thing I recommend they do before booking a wedding with any hotel is contact Kendal Registry Office and make sure they have their date and time available! The Registrars get very busy and couples tend to forget that if they are having a Civil Ceremony, without these guys there’s no marriage!

Have you got any tips for choosing a wedding theme?

Our function rooms are great as they are a blank canvas to do with as you wish. We have brilliant contacts for a local venue stylist who works wonders, florists and many other useful companies we personally recommend to work alongside myself ensuring gorgeous effects. We are in a beautiful location but it is The Lakes and beautiful weather does not always go hand in hand so I always tell my couples to really think about table centres with a big wow factor. When the weather is miserable candle light reflecting off mirror settings and twinkly droplets on candelabras look fantastic and adds a sense of magic. If the sun is shining it radiates through our function rooms and with all the terrace doors open, a backdrop of the lake, mountains and the warm summer breeze flowing through, what could be better.

The Daffodil Hotel & Spa is such a stunning location, how do you advise incorporating this?

Definitely to make use of our beautiful Terrace and Gardens. With the opportunity to say your vows in front of a sparkling lake surrounded by mountains and valleys and of course your loved ones, our Outside Gazebo is just breath-taking. The day after, make full use of our award winning Spa with a dip in the Hydrotherapy Pool, meet for lunch in our stunning Sitting Room overlooking the lake and enjoy a delicious Afternoon Tea before leaving your car here and having a leisurely stroll in to the lovely Grasmere.

Book an appointment with Katie - and start planning your big day!
